Sadly one of the guests due to arrive this Saturday (27th) is ill
and they have had to cancel so this Bank Holiday week is now
available.
5 July 2011 I wondered why our
bird food was disappearing so quickly until I saw this, one of
Borrowdale's most treasured residents...

11 May 2011 Back
to "normal" Cumbrian weather of sun and rain, at least the farmers
are smiling, but we've had a good few weeks. Bookings have
been very successful this year with only a couple of weeks available
now until the middle of October, and those weeks will most likely
get booked soon. We need to make our wifi work in the cottage
- the walls are too thick forthe signal to penetrate. We've
had some helpful suggestions, but the salesmen we've spoken to could
not promise their devices would work and we're not keen to pay out
money without guarantees. More research needed.
10 March 2011
After a week or so of gloriously sunny weather
a return to cold, wet and windy, but right now the sun has come
out and the mountains glow gloriously. the weather certainly
doesn't put off walkers on the fells. Daffodils now in bloom.
Sad to note the passing this week of Mark Weir, probably the most
colourful character in the valley. He was loved by some but
disliked by others - jealousy? We had every admiration for him and
were grateful for his help in the renovation of Chapel Field.
24 February 2011 Going to try to turn this page into a kind of blog - but
not sure how often we'll be able to keep it up to date.
Today is the culmination of a longstanding boundary dispute with one
of our neighbours. Several years ago another neighbour stole
several square metres off the back of our property, including the
remains of an old privvy, which was of historical interest, that she
had demolished. Now another neighbour has been trying to steal
something off the front. The dispute is far too complex to put
down details here. We couldn't get them to see sense so have
reluctantly agreed to a compromise. Later today a surveyor
will mark out an "agreed" boundary and the neighbour will then have
to erect a fence on her side of this new boundary. Let's hope
that peace will reign afterwards. Meanwhile, the weather has
turned warmer for the Bank Holiday week and there are plenty of
holiday makers around both on the fells and in the towns.
19 January 2011 The weather is warming up and already the
daffodils are pushing up through the soil. If we have a cold
snap they'll probably want to go back down.
Someone staying in the cottage early December or late November either over-filled
the bath or used the shower without its
screen. The result was the bathroom floor coming up and
downstairs ceilings coming down in the hall and lounge. We've had to
close for a couple of weeks while the bathroom floor dried out was
re-laid and we've fitted a new shower screen.
2011 bookings are coming in fast, especially the Easter period.
Looks like we'll be busy this year.
You are now able to pay by card, this should make the
booking process much easier.
